Petros Martin

Born in 1951, Petros Martin attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and Venice from 1975 to 1980 and also studied privately at Allier George Masse in Montreal. With an international background, Petros is a leading. contemporary Canadian painter renowned for his nudes and abstracts. He is also an accomplished portraitist and sculptor, known for his distinctive style that reflects his love for the land and people.

Educated in the heart of Western culture, Petros' work is deeply influenced by the great masters, evident in his passion for drawing and his quest for pure form. His art harmonizes the figurative and abstract, blending the massive and delicate forms of his subjects with textured abstract backgrounds through the magic of a few lines.

The texture of Petros' work is profoundly influenced by the colors of late Renaissance frescos and modern art, yet his art never strays from the indelible image of the human form in all its life aspects. His canvases feature aesthetic lines, a remnant of his sculptural training, which often dominate over texture.

Petros continually seeks to blend content and form in a style that ranges from "minimal representationalism" to the effervescent, evanescent blurring lines of modern two-dimensional “imagism.”

After extensive travels and exhibitions throughout Europe, Petros settled in Toronto in 1986, where he continues to live and work. His art is featured in numerous corporate and private collections across Europe, Canada, and the United States.
